‘No decision yet over Tigers’ tour of Pakistan’

Post  Admin on Mon Jan 16, 2012 1:50 pm

Bangladesh are yet to take any decision regarding the tour of Bangladesh national cricket team to Pakistan in next April, said State Minister for Youth and Sports Ahad Ali Sarker. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) requested the government to send a joint security team in Pakistan to oversee the total condition once their Pakistan counterpart assured BCB to give top security.
Since the deadly accident of the Sri Lanka cricket team in March, 2009, no foreign teams toured Pakistan. As the Pakistan president gave BCB president a nod for the ICC vice-president post, the eventual ICC president, it is believed the BCB is eager to tour there.
“We did not take yet any final decision about the Bangladesh national cricket team’s tour of Pakistan” adding, I think, the overall security condition in Pakistan is not so good to playing cricket,” said Ahad Ali Sarker, state minister for sports.
Moreover, the recent political situation in Pakistan is also unfavorable for any visiting teams as a critical political crisis is prevailing in the country and it turned to be the hot topic of the international politics.
“Before taking such significant decision, we need to take the approval from the Home Ministry. Then we will take a decision whether the team will go under the present uncertain security condition of Pakistan,” the minister said this at a press briefing in the seminar room of the Press Information Department, where he highlighted the achievement of the government in sports sector in last three years.
Sarker said while responding various queries of the journalists, “As per the directives of the ICC it is trying to keep the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) out of politics. Apart from this, we are trying to make free the sports arena of the country from the grip of the politics.”
“We are working as per the ICC’s directives and hope that an elected person will take the charge of the apex body of the cricket in the country in the days to come.”
