The most attractive part of the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 Tournament is player’s auction, which will be held at the Radisson Water Garden in Dhaka on January 19.

A total of 160 cricketing star players across the cricket playing globe including 80 cricketers from foreign and the remaining 80 local players will take part in the open auction. “Already 123 foreign players showed their positive intention and have signed agreement. Out of them, BPL governing council will scrutinise and finally select 80 foreign players and 80 local players for the sale,” Anjan Ganguly, director of Indian Game on Sports Management, who got official rights for the event management of the extravaganza said this at the first official meet of the event management company at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

“Every team will be comprised of 18 players. Each team could purchase maximum number of nine foreign players but ultimately five foreign players will be allowed to play in a match along with the local players.”
“The bidding of players will be held on three categories including A, B and C categories, where bid kick-starts from US$1,00,000.00 for A category foreign player, US$50,000.00 for B and US $ 25,000.00 for C category player,” Ganguly informed.

Sirajuddin Md. Alamgir, director of Bangladesh Cricket Board and member secretary of BPL governing body said, “Primarily, we have made a list, categorising local players but the decisive players’ list, who will take part in the auction, will be finalised in the next meeting of BPL governing council, which will be held on January 7.”
Meanwhile, six local star players have been selected as the icon of the six participating teams. Six icon players are national team captain Mushfiqur Rahim for Rajshahi Division, Mohammad Ashraful for Dhaka Division, Shakib Al Hasan for Khulna Division, Tamim Iqbal for Chittagong Division, Alok Kapali for Sylhet Division and Shahriar Nafees for Barisal Division.

On the other hand, the six-divisional teams will be franchised through an open auction which will take place at Westin, Dhaka on January 10. The floor price of bidding for a franchise team has been fixed US $ 1 million.
The director of event management while answering to a query said, “We are receiving a good response from a number of leading local and foreign companies. We have already sold seven copies of bid documents so far and expecting more companies to come forward within the remaining period.”

The players’ auction programme will be live telecast in the world wide through official broadcasting partner Channel-9 through its overseas broadcasting partners. Channel 9 has got the exclusive rights to broadcast the matches of BPL T20 for the first 6 editions at the cost of 24 million USD.

To mark the gala opening of the first ever edition of the BPL Twenty20, a mega concert will be organised at Cox’s Bazar on January 13, where the theme song of the flagship event will be launched with a number of famous local and foreign singers. Prominent Indian musician Bappi Lahiri composed the theme song. Jalal Yunus, Director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), and Manzur Ahmed, CEO of BCB were also present on the occasion.
