Taking part in BPL like a dream come true for Amir

Post  Admin on Fri Nov 20, 2015 2:59 pm

The resurrection of tainted Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir in the cricket world seems to have been given an extra impetus by the spreading of the news that he is going to take part in the third season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), which is due to commence on the 22nd of November. Before the commencement of the battle in the field, a gala opening ceremony will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday, with Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan, Sri Lanka-born beauty queen Jacqueline Fernandez and singer KK alongside a number of local stars set to grace the stage.

Amir, the twenty-three year old fast bowler, who was of late allowed to continue his international career by the Interational Cricket Council (ICC) after serving a five year ban, has recently expressed his delight at being asked to play in the prestigious domestic T20 tournament of Bangladesh and looked back at his progress so far in domestic cricket.

The third installment of the cash-rich Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) promises to be an exciting tournament with some of the top players from the world vying to prove their credentials. With six local franchises in the mix and a well proven format, the competition is expected to provide explosive thrills for the ardent fans of not only in Bangladesh but across the entire cricket world.

However, this competition is likely to bring added pressure and challenge for Amir, as this will be his first taste of cricket with a truly international flavour. As a result this will mean a lot to him as he takes steps towards a return to an international career stating that, “To be called to play in such a prestigious tournament like BPL like a dream come true for me. It is perhaps a major milestone in my quest to work towards representing my country Pakistan, which remains my dream. I would like to offer a special thanks to the Chittagong Vikings chairman, who has given me this opportunity to prove myself at a platform which would be the envy of many others.”

“I am thrilled to play alongside some quality players who will represent the Vikings and realize that I have been entrusted with a huge responsibility to help the team reach the ultimate goal. This is a challenge I have given a lot of thought to, and come 22nd November when we meet the Rangpur Riders in Dhaka, I will be doing my utmost to ensure that I justify the trust placed on my skills by my team and hopefully we will emerge as the trophy winners.”

The five-year ban on Amir from participating in any kind of competitive cricket came to an end in September but prior to that the ICC in January this year, the International Cricket Council allowed him to feature in domestic home matches. Amir solely passed his gratefulness to the Almighty for providing him with another chance to come back to the field and get engaged in something he loves the most. “I am thankful to the Almighty that He has once again given me another opportunity to fulfil my potential,” said Amir.

The young pace bowling sensation went through some tough times as he restarted his career. However his comeback performance was nothing short of extraordinary as he has taken thirty-four wickets in the qualifying rounds of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy for his team Sui Southern Gas and helped them qualify for the main tournament. He so far has taken sixteen wickets in four matches there in the main tournament.
